My travels take in all that is good and great in fresh produce from around the North West and what is on our doorstep. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the most passionate farmers who if truth be told, have not got the foggiest how good they really are at what they do…
Bring that forward to Didsbury. Some of the people who live here may have seen and/or heard one of my tomato/food monologue shows at one of my market stalls around South Manchester (West Didsbury, Chorlton, Northenden) and I can tell you all, there are some very well informed foodies and home cooks living in Didsbury. Sharing my experience of meeting our suppliers of this produce is so pleasurable. It makes you pinch yourself on a daily basis knowing that all the ingredients will find a great home/plate that will do justice to the farmer who grew or raised it initially. What makes it so worth while, and a now a great part of the Artisan Meat company story, is the total food miles from field to fork is usually less than 10.
Passion and knowledge of fresh produce = greengrocer.
Passion and knowledge about meats = butcher.
If you put those two ingredients and skill sets together, with the conductor of our orchestra Mark Faulkner, you have The Artisan Meat Company. Why Artisan? Well, we have our own animals and we do that little extra with flavour and curing, putting a taste of the country into the city. Doing it with a smile and having the knowledge to give best advice on what to cook, how to cook it and what flavours work best together, is what we do.
All you need to do is come in to see us, ask your questions, taste the samples and see for yourself. Your taste buds won’t lie – they WILL ask you to open your purse or wallet and try the best god damn local food that starts being served from Friday 11th November at 8.00am at Didsbury Village Farm Shop.
